THE LAW

According to the law called « Loi Lallemand Michielsen » which has purposed the conditional decriminalization of the abortion has been adopted the 3rd April 1990.
For allowing, the abortion (also called Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy)must be done before the 12th week since the conception(14 weeks of Amenorrhea ).

These following conditions must to be respected :

•The woman has to be on a depressed state which must be recognized by a doctor. (this state is not anymore defined by the law).
•The interruption has to done by a doctor. -Information’s over others possible alternatives must be told to the patient.
•A period of 6 days must be respected between the first appointment and the day of the abortion’s act.
•About this last remark, the law do recognize that sometimes it cannot be respected in the case of an emergency.

By the way, we warn you that any doctors or medical staff(includes also students in Medicine)is not obliged to practise an abortion if it does not belong to his personal convictions.

• Beyond 14 weeks of Amenorrhea, the interruption of pregnancy with therapeutics is still available if there is a risk for the mother’s or child’s health.
• The therapeutic abortion is always done in a hospital (always beyond 14 weeks) or in a Familial planning Centre, with medicines (Mifepristone and then Misoprostol) or by the aspirated way.

It’s almost repaid by the Mutuality.

METHODS

The medicine’s method :
in a maximal period of time of 49 days of amenorrhea(you must count the number of days since the last day of your Menstruation), it’s equivalent of 5 weeks.

During the first appointment, a Gynaecologist will give all the information’s over abortion and help you to figure out.
Then, this doctor will do a gynaecologic examination: thanks to an ultrasound, he will be able to value since how long you are pregnant. Finally, you will book together an appointment for the abortion act.

The surgery’s method :
in a maximal period of time of 12 weeks of pregnancy

First step
During the first appointment, a Gynaecologist will give all the information’s over abortion and help you to figure out.
Then, this doctor will do a gynaecologic examination: thanks to an ultrasound, he will be able to value since how long you are pregnant.

Second step
The abortion act is done by a doctor, by aspirated way under a local or general anaesthetic. It should be followed with a period of rest (more or less one hour).

Third step
Medical control. During this appointment, the doctor will check if everything is in order.
